What Does It Take To Build A Business That Can Grow And Stay Competitive Over The Long Term?

What does it take to build a business that can grow and stay competitive over the long term?

This was one of the key questions explored during our recent fireside chat with Mr Steven Toy, Chairman and Managing Director of AME International, where our SPETA Gen II Leadership Programme (SGLP) Cohort 2 participants had the opportunity to hear directly from his experience building AME International.

Mr Toy shared candid insights into the PE landscape, the importance of staying connected to industry and continuously learning, as well as how leadership evolves as a business grows.

He also shared perspectives on developing talent, building niche capabilities to stay competitive, and the importance of looking beyond cost competition by investing in capabilities and products over the longer term.

One point stood out: sustainable growth requires adaptability. As markets, technology and business conditions continue to change, businesses need to be willing to adapt, make informed decisions and continue building for the long term.

For our current and aspiring leaders, the session provided an opportunity to hear practical lessons from real business experience and gain a better understanding of what it takes to navigate growth, challenges and change.
