TED Talk: Engineering the Next Generation of Engineers

TED Talk: Engineering the Next Generation of Engineers.

A different kind of TED talk...

Pleased to attend the TED (Technical Engineer Diploma in Machine Technology) Final Year Project Showcase, hosted by the ITE College Central, School of Engineering.

The TED in Machine Technology Project Showcase is an annual platform presenting the completed projects of graduating students to industry partners, employers, and invited guests.

Many of these projects are undertaken in close collaboration with industry, tackling real-world challenges and addressing pressing operational pain points. Particularly within Singapore’s precision engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors.

As Singapore continues its push to strengthen its position as a strategic, high-value manufacturing hub, leveraging technology and creating meaningful career progression opportunities for Singaporeans, platforms like this are more important than ever.

They do more than help businesses innovate and solve problems. They play a vital role in nurturing and sustaining a strong pipeline of talent and capability. Some would say are the essential ingredients for long-term success.

Beyond technological advancement, what stood out most were the new faces representing the future of engineering excellence in Singapore.

While they may choose to pursue other career pathways in the future, what they have learnt as a budding engineer would no doubt serve them well wherever they choose to be.

Congratulations to all graduating students and the teams behind the 13 project showcases for 2026.

And my appreciation to the team at ITE College Central—Principal Mr. Seng Chin Chye, Deputy Director Mr. Ramanath SH, as well as the dedicated lecturers and supervisors for their steadfast commitment to developing the next generation of engineering talent!
