Sustainability Learning Journey - Onn Wah Precision Machining Pte Ltd

Sustainability in Manufacturing - A delicate balancing act

SPETA and our members visited Onn Wah Precision Machining Pte Ltd on 28 Sept. As part of our efforts to shed more light on sustainability and its impact on Singapore manufacturing companies, the learning journey to Onn Wah provided much useful insights on what a SME can do.

We are grateful to Keng Yew Lam for hosting and his generous sharing of experience, as well as practical tips. As a SME with limited resources yet facing intense global competition, they had to adjust and adopt a fit-for-purpose approach for their sustainability journey. While taking steady steps towards carbon foot printing and facilitating mindset shifts among employees, they also have to maintain their competitiveness and efficient as a growing company.

During the session, SPETA also shared our observations of how MNCs are taking steps to on-board their critical suppliers and partners to their sustainability journey as part of their supply chain. Many starts by getting this group of strategic partners to embark on carbon foot printing, a stock-take of where they stand at the moment.

We also benefited from the insightful sharing by Abid Ali, from Energy Efficiency Technology Centre (EETC), Singapore Institute of Technology as well as Jiehui Kia from Ichi Seiki, and also the Head of SPETA Sustainability Committee.

Big thanks to all the participants to took time to attend and braved the sun.

To round it up, it takes a village to go far on this journey towards sustainable manufacturing.
And yes, we have a village! It is growing, and together we will get there.
