Field Trip to GD Precision and ATC

On 22 Oct 2024, thirty one eager students from Changkat Changi Secondary School ventured to GD Precision Pte Ltd and Applied Total Control Treatment Pte Ltd. This field trip was designed to bridge classroom learning with real-world applications, offering students insights into the engineering industry and the innovative processes that drive it.

Upon arrival, students were greeted by the company’s staff, who welcomed them and provided an overview of the company’s mission and operations.

The highlight of the trip was the guided tour of the production facility where they were introduced to the state-of-the-art machinery and tools used in precision engineering. Students were fascinated by how these machines transformed raw materials into intricate components with remarkable accuracy.

Next, the group explored various surface finishing techniques, including grinding, polishing, and coating. The importance of surface quality in engineering components was highlighted, showcasing how it impacts durability and performance.

The students were also introduced to the quality control process, where they learned about the rigorous testing methods used to ensure that every component meets industry standards.

Following the tour, students participated in activities and hands on experience in the laboratory. This experience allowed them to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, fostering a deeper understanding of engineering principles.

The field trip concluded with a Q&A session, where students engaged with engineers about their career paths and the skills needed in the field.

The trip to GD Precision and ATC provided Changkat Changi Secondary School students with invaluable insights into the world of precision engineering and surface finishing. It not only reinforced classroom concepts but also inspired students to explore future careers in engineering. The combination of expert guidance, hands-on experience, and real-world applications made this field trip an enriching experience that will resonate with students for years to come.
