28th - 30th May - SEMICON SEA 2024
Linchpin of Modern Technology
Speaking at Semicon Southeast Asia 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Ajit Manocha, CEO and President of SEMI, highlighted the rapid growth of the global semiconductor industry. He noted that the industry is riding a triple wave of technological disruptions, propelling it toward a US$1 trillion market size milestone by 2030.
Mr. Manocha outlined the three transformative waves driving this growth: the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Quantum Computing. To accommodate this explosive growth, SEMI's latest World Fab Forecast reveals that 103 new 300mm and 200mm semiconductor fabs are expected to come online worldwide between 2023 and 2027. However, achieving this exponential growth amid unprecedented challenges will require unprecedented industry collaboration.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), with the government allocating MYR 25 billion (US$5.3 billion) to foster industry development. According to reports from Bernama and The Edge Malaysia, the NSS will be implemented in three phases: expanding on the established foundation, building an advanced chip supply chain, and attracting top international customers.
